Who We Are:The Michigan State University Club of Benzie County – The Benzie Spartans – is a non-profit 501(c) 3 educational, charitable and social organization. As members, we promote MSU’s activities both on campus and worldwide, sponsor social events and, most importantly, provide scholarships to local high school students entering MSU. Since the year 2000 Benzie Spartans have awarded up to five scholarships each year, giving local students a boost in achieving their educational goals
An ongoing initiative of the Benzie Spartans is to develop an endowment to support these scholarships. We do this through several fund-raising events held throughout the year, and by receiving cash donations, in-kind donations and personal endowments in trust funds. Gifts in the fund are invested at MSU and the interest on the endowment pays for scholarships. Until the endowment is fully funded we will continue to raise additional money to support existing scholarships.
Benzie Spartans also meet several times a year to socialize, whether a reception to meet a representative from MSU’s worldwide campus, an annual beach bash, or a game watch party for football and basketball games - events that bring the spirit of MSU to Benzie County. If you would like to suggest or coordinate an event, please contact us. Donations to cover the costs of these events and other administrative expenses are welcomed.
Spartans, friends of Spartans and others are invited to join us for fun, education, good-natured rivalries, and especially to support our local students in achieving their educational goals. We look forward to having you as a member and to seeing you at coming events.
